Day One - Sunday June 6th - San Francisco to Santa Cruz
91 miles
We hopped on a shuttle bus in the morning and headed to the Cow Palace where we would start our journey. It was cool and even a little misty on the way down to Santa Cruz. After making the slow climb and fast descent into Half Moon Bay, we headed south on the coast to Santa Cruz. It was overcast until mile 50 on the ride. Once the sun was out, I became instantly energized. Our friend Les was with us the whole day but I knew he would ride his usual faster pace (which he did of course) in the coming days. He was being nice. Kathryn was the ultimate stoker (person the back of the tandem) providing much need power and words of encouragement. We worked well together!
